8 Healthy Breakfast Ideas for Kids

The most important thing to remember is that, similar to adults, kids need some protein in their breakfast.  This helps keep their blood sugar balanced and helps them stay focused in their day. Here are some ideas to make that process easier and will likely offer something for even the fussiest eaters!

8 Healthy Breakfast Ideas for Kids

1) Honey sweetened plain yogurt with added fresh or frozen fruit and nuts/seeds (if dairy free, can use coconut or almond yogurt)

2) Chicken breakfast sausage with some cut up veggies like cucumber or pepper with a small cup of hummus and a sliced apple

3) Breakfast burrito: ½ of whole grain tortilla with added scrambled eggs and salsa. Add a clementine on the side

4) Whole grain toast with 2 slices of turkey bacon- Applegate farms or Traders Joe’s brand. Add ½ a pear with 1 TBS of fresh pomegranate seeds

5) Paleo type muffins: they use coconut/almond flour or ground seeds instead of grain flour. They are very low in sugar and provide some protein for breakfast. See recipe:  http://www.thepaleomom.com/2012/01/recipe-zucchini-muffins.html

6) Happy face toast: Toast 1 slice of whole grain bread and add 1-2 TBS of unsweetened nut butter. Add 2 dried cranberries for eyes, a cashew for a nose and an apple slice for the smile

7) Yogurt parfait: Greek organic yogurt or if dairy free, can use coconut or almond yogurt. Use a tall glass and layer yogurt with a nut based trail mix.  Top with unsweetened shredded coconut or a few dried cherries

8) Paleo type pancakes: use almond flour in place of regular flour in your recipe or try this version-http://againstallgrain.com/2012/04/05/grain-free-pancakes/; serve rolled up with nut butter or a dab of all fruit spread
